Short Answer: McMaster-Carr does not show shipping charges during the online checkout process because it calculates shipping costs based on the package dimensions and the total weight of your order. After your order has shipped, you’ll receive a final receipt that includes the cost of your items, taxes, and shipping. McMaster-Carr is an old-line industrial supplier not too different than Granger et al. But concentrating less on supplies and more on hardware, metal stock, plastics, etc. I have used them many times with great success for hardware not available locally, plastic (they have everything: G-10, phenolic.

If it isn't obvious from the title, I live in Canada. I'm working on a project that requires some basic power transmission components:.
Driveshafts (1/2'). Acme Threaded Rods and Nuts (5/8'). Worm Gears and Worms. Bevel or Miter Gears. Timing Belts and Pulleys. Geared 10V or 12V Electric MotorMcMaster has everything I need, but does not ship to Canada for new clients.
I am having a difficult time finding even an online presence that carries all these things, that ships up here for less than a small fortune.I thought Princess Auto might hit the mark, but they fell short in every category. A shop that I could physically go in to would be ideal, but a good online (and affordable) store would suffice.I live in Calgary, Alberta, but would be willing to travel anywhere between here and Edmonton, if there is a department store for builders and engineers hiding somewhere.Much thanks. Yeah, I've checked 'em all out. Acklands isn't bad, but doesn't have nearly the selection of McMaster.
Same goes for Fastenal - they fall short in a lot of areas for what I'm looking for.Gave Wajax a call yesterday in Calgary. They can probably get me most of what I am looking for.

But without much of a catalogue, I need to go in to them with a very specific list of what I need, and they will tell me after a bit of searching if they can or cannot get it. Not very convenient when I have the plans already made; I would prefer to not make alterations based on material availability.Did the Google Phonebook thing for the last couple days.
Nothing local, or even within the province, and most searches end up at the same couple sites (McMaster and Acklands being two of them). The ideal situation would be having a department store type of set up, where I can walk around picking out what I need, but I understand it would be difficult for a shop like that to carry such a large variety, and the overhead of having all those components would be astronomical. It might end up being that I'll have to piece it all together from a dozen suppliers. Not ideal, but my hands are tied, up here in the Great White North. It's been a few years, but when I worked in a fabrication shop in BC we had all sorts of suppliers but never McMaster-Carr. One for most bolts, a couple for most steel stock, one for blades, one for gear motors and pulleys, etc. I'd assume we'd generally have a contact with all the equivalent suppliers of MC.Like your idea of purchasing MC via a machine shop, I'd suggest just asking the machine shop to source these things for you. They'll have the contacts of sales agents and such to get better prices and faster shipping.
